About Us

Open DMX Theater is a hobby project of Michiel Prins and Barry Kalshoven. Future commercial releases will be released and marketed by their company, Small Office Solutions.

Michiel Prins (e-mail)
Michiel (1972) started his lighting and rigging hobby at school. For school parties, he always contacted professional light rental offices for stuff he needed. Since the school was located in a former theater, accomodation was perfect for excellent rigging. Unfortunately, digital photography was unavailable in those days, so there are no photos available.

Years after leaving school, and working in a totally different area (IT), he was contacted to do the lighting for a dutch charity musical, Verboden te Lachen (Laughing Not Allowed), a children's story in the series of Alfred Jodocus Kwak, written and previously performed by Herman van Veen, who is famous in large parts of Europe.

The dazzling succes of this musical made Michiel interested in lighting again. After surfing the web for some time, he found the Enttec Open DMX USB Interface and decided to purchase it and write software for it.

Barry Kalshoven (e-mail)
Barry (1974) has no prior experience with lighting, but is a fabulous C++ programmer. Together with Michiel he owns the dutch IT company Small Office Solutions. This project immediately got his (positive) attention and both men wrote the first version of Open DMX Theater in just two evenings.
